Skin Bliss: How We Make Money
How Skin Bliss stays independent: no brand deals, no sponsored rankings, no data sold to advertisers, funded only by app subscriptions from users
Short version: you pay us, and nobody else does.
Skin Bliss is an independent app, built by a small team of acne veterans, dry-skin strugglers, dupe hunters, and skincare geeks. We use the same app we build, for the same reasons you do: to understand our skin better, to stop wasting money on products that don't fit, and to feel less guessy about what we put on our faces.
To keep that honest, we chose full independence. That means three rules we don't break.
Rule 1: No brand deals, no sponsorships, no paid placements
We don't take money from skincare brands. Not for reviews. Not for feature placement. Not for higher rankings in search results. Not for the "recommended" slot in any part of the app.
The catalog inside Skin Bliss ranks products by ingredient match to your profile. That ranking is the same for every user with the same inputs. If a brand wants to pay for a better score, they can't, because there is no mechanism for that transaction to exist on our side.
Rule 2: We don't sell your data
Your skin profile, your scanned products, your concerns, your photos: none of it is packaged and sold to advertisers or data brokers. We don't run ad exchanges, we don't embed third-party trackers for marketing, and we don't share identifiable user data with brands under any "partnership" framing.
What we do keep is the minimum we need to make the app work: your profile, your saved routines, your scan history, and anonymized usage signals that help us fix bugs and improve features. You can see what we store and request deletion from inside the app at any time.
Rule 3: Our only revenue is your subscription
Skin Bliss runs on a simple app subscription. That's the whole business model. Subscribers fund the team, the ingredient database, the science reviews, the translations into 14 languages, and the infrastructure that keeps all of it working.
If you're on the free tier, you still get the core scanning and ingredient tools, because a skincare app that hides ingredient information behind a paywall would defeat its own purpose. Premium unlocks the deeper personalization layers: full routine evaluation, compatibility checks across your whole stack, unlimited scans, and the Skin Diary + AI Photo Comparison tracking tools.
Why we chose it this way
There's an easier path to funding a skincare app. Take brand money, promote "partner" products, put sponsored content inside the feed, sell ingredient data to formulators. Plenty of apps do, and some are honest about it.
We picked the harder path because the whole point of Skin Bliss is to give you a second opinion that isn't bought. The moment our score depends on who paid us, the score stops being useful. You'd have to read every recommendation with a raised eyebrow, and we'd be one more voice in the noise you opened the app to cut through.
The trade-off is that we grow slower, and we ask you to pay for something a lot of apps give away (with strings attached). If you find Skin Bliss useful, a subscription is what keeps us independent, keeps the ingredient database current, and keeps the advice pointed at you instead of at a sponsor.
Thanks for supporting that model. It's the only reason we can write a page like this one.
